COUNCILS OF SPORT
Physical Welfare Work
The formation of councild of sport in New Zealand marked an important stage in the achievement of an ideal for which many public-spirited enthusiasts had long been striving, remarked the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, in a review on Saturday of progress of physical welfare work during the past year. Councils had been formed for the Waikato district, Wellington, Otago and Southland. An organization, practically equivalent, to a sports council, was functioning in Christchurch. “In this national movement,” the Minister said, “physical welfare officers of the Department of Internal Affairs have been glad to co-operate with leading representatives of sports bodies. There is a thoroughly satisfactory understanding on all the principles involved, and the way is clear for steady, solid progress in the national field. It is anticipated that within a measurable future the new developments will show very good results,”
