Provision For A Ballot

(entries closed)-; Shorts Handicap, £6OO. six furlongs; and October Hack, £350, one mile. Second day: Rimu Hurdles, £350. one mile and a half; Trial Stakes, £3OO (for £lOO limit), seven furlongs;. Harcourt Stakes, £750. w.f.a,, one mile ami three furlongs; Heretaungfi Hark, £350, one mile and three furlongs; Karitane Haiulicap, £5OO (for two-year-olds), five furlongs; Pearce Handicap, £lOOO, one mile; Awatea Handicap. £6OO. seven furlongs: Belmont Hack. £350, seven furlongs. Avoiding: Divisions.
For-the purpose of avoiding divisions, the Wellington Racing Club’ri spring pro : gramme, advises, and emphasizes, that it will reduce to within, the safety number nominating" and accepting will be dee-med to have accepted this condition. Owners of horses eliminated will be advised by telegram forthwith* after the closing time of acceptances.
Method Adopted. ■The following procedure will be adopted in respect of any race from which acceptors are. required to be eliminated:—(l) On the closing of acceptances the secretary will. compile a list of. and consecntively number, the acceptors substantially in the order of weights; and where two or more horses have been allotted the same weight, will place such horses In alphabetical order. (2) The number to be eliminated from - any field will be the, difference between the numlier of acceptors and the safety number for the race. (3) The field will be divided into .groups—each such group to contain as far as possible the same number of horses. The number of horses to.be eliminated will be .divided Into a corresponding number of (4) The horses to be eliminated from each group will be decided - by ballot.' (5) In any elimination ballot horses -which are required to be bracketed on the totalizator will be numbered separately, according to their positions in the list ns referred to'in clause (1). In the event of a horse having accepted for more than one race.to be run on the, same'day, such horse’will be doomed a non-acceptor for any race in which It. has accepted and in respect' of which an elimination ballot is required, provided that one of the races for which it has accepted Is not subject to ballot. Should elimination ballots be required in respect of each race for which that horse has been accepted it will be included in each ballot only till it. survives a ballot when it becomes ineligible for any subsequent ballot. (7) Each and every ballot shall be drawn by a subcommittee of the stewards, specially appointed for the purpose, and its decision will be final on any matter not provided for in these conditions.
Not I’enaltzed. No nomination or acceptance few will be payable for any horse in -respect of the race from which it has been eliminated by ballot, provided that such horse accepts for only one race on the same day of the meeting, but in all other cases .the full amount of nomination and acceptance fees will be payable whether such .horse-has or has not been eliminated by ballot.
