BAFFLING CRIME
Wairoa Investigation
Dominion Special Service.
WAIROA, September 7.
Working in pairs, the detectives investigating the deaths of Brigadier Annie Smvth, and Miss Rosamund Jane Smyth, whose bodies were found in the Wairoa Salvation Army Hal! 18 days ago, have now interviewed a large proportion of Wairoa’s population. Men, women and children have - received visits and been asked to cast their minds back to see if they could throw light on one of the most baffling crimes in the history of New Zealand. . . , The actual date of the crime, it is believed, has now been established, and it Is common ground that it occurred several days before the discovery of the bodies, making the police job all the more difficult. The Indications are that the police have tem-. porarily reached a checkmate.
