REFUSAL TO SERVE
Three Brothers Sentenced
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 7i
Three brothers who refused to’ serve iu the military forces appeared for sentence before Mr. Luxford, S.M. ’ They were Reginald E. Radermaeher, Robert Raderinacher and Frederick Raderinacher. Mr. Hogben appeared for the brothers’ mother, who, he said, had asked him to inform the Court that her sons had at all times objected to participation in war and had been brought up in that belief. They had previously told the Court they were political objectors, but that was not correct. Some person must have recently influenced them.
“The case is unusual,” said the magistrate. “The three brothers steadfastly object. They told me it was on political grounds and now counsel states that they are conscientious objectors.” After reading the police report Mr. Luxford said Reginald and Robert had records and had been convicted of resisting the police. The report stated that they were not fit subjects for a defaulters’ camp. Frederick had not been under the notice of the police. “You have made up your minds to resist the law,” said Mr. Luxford in sentencing the three men to three months’ imprisonment.
