STALINGRAD CITY AT ARMS Even Children Ready To Fight TRAFFIC ON RIVER LONDON, September 6. Berlin, in an unconfirmed report, claims that the German forces on the Stalingrad front, have captured three suburbs of the city from the south-west. Correspondents state that in the city every citizen, including women and even children, is now armed and prepared to take an active part in its defence. In spite of the non-stop bombing river traffic is continuing on the Volga. The latest Soviet communique states: “The Russians south-west of Stalingrad fought fierce engagements with, the attacking tanks and infantry, all attempts to break into Stalingrad meeting with staunch resistance. Northwest of Stalingrad we repulsed attacks.” The communique also states that mopping up continues in.the Mosdok area, and says that Russian troops took several places on the central front. Gentian reports today speak of heavy attacks by the Russians near Rzhev and Kaluga, on both wings of the central front.
