IMPROVEMENT IN PACIFIC

ON OFFENSIVE (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) ' (Received September 5, 8.45 p.m.) OTTAWA, September 5. The New Zealand Prime Minister, Mr.) Fraser, has arrived from Washington for a conference with the Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Mackenzie King, regarding the common war interest of Canada and New Zealand in the Pacific. Mr. Fraser plans, to visit his brother Donald at Toronto before returning to Washington tomorrow.
Mr.- Fraser told the Press that the situation in the Pacific was improving steadily. “In view of the American successes, in the Solomons and other recent developments,’’ he said, “I believe it can be said that the United Nations are on the offensive in the Pacific.” Discussing his recent conferences with President Roosevelt and the American -military and naval commanders, he said: “They seem certain of the ultimate result,, but the feeling is that we must -be prepared to face great difficulties and hardships.” Mr. Eraser expressed confidence that the Germans would be hurled back in the current actions in Egypt, in which the New Zealanders are participating.
