Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, September 5. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall, attended by Captain H. G. Helmore, were present at the Auckland v. Wellington Rugby football match this afternoon. September 6.
Their Excellencies tbe GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall attended Divine service at St. Aidan’s Church, Miramar, this morning.
Mr. Justice Kennedy arrived at Wellington during the weekend to attend sittings of the Court of Appeal.
Mr. Justice Northcroft has arrived in Wellington for the sitting of the Court of Appeal. Mr. H. Temple White, who has been adjudicating at the Dunedin competitions, arrived back in Wellington on Saturday.
The Rev. D. Mclntyre, Paterangi, has received a call to St. Andrew’s, South Canterbury, and it has been sustained by the Waikato Presbytery.
Squadron Leader L. G. Lilly has been promoted to the rank of wing commander at the age of 24. After gaining his flying licence at a South Island air station he went to England in 1939. He was posted to the General Reconnaissance Coastal Command in Great Britain and was serving in Malaya and Java at the time of the evacuation.
Dr. Felix M. Keesing, a well-known authority on Polynesia, formerly of Auckland, has been appointed to the Office of Strategic Services, Washington. His work will be special research on the Pacific Islands. Dr. Keesing will work in a civilian capacity. He has written several books on the Polynesian races, and. has been a professor at the University of Hawaii.
