SOLDIERS UNDER 21 YEARS
No Dispatch Overseas At Present CHANGE MIGHT LATER BE NECESSARY
“The view seems to be current among a section of the people that it is Attended to send members of the Territorial Force under the age of 21 years overseas,” said the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr. Sullivan, in a statement last evening. “On a number of occasions it has been emphasized by the Minister of Defence that there is no present intention of sending these young men overseas, and I wish to reiterate that there has not been any change of policy. “It will be realized that under the National Service Emergency Regulations every male member of any Armed Force is liable, as such, for service wherever he is required, whether in New Zealand or elsewhere. Circumstances jin the future might require a change of policy regarding the dispatch of men both under the age of 21 and over 41 years for service overseas, but for the present only those fit men who have reached the age of 21 years and have not attained the age of 41 years will be sent overseas.”
