Advisory Board Set Up
“Rubber is considered to. be so vital to the war effort that collection will continue till further notice, though it is expected that the bulk of rubber waste from households will be contributed in the main drives now current, and small quantities will continue to be sent in as articles become unusable.” states the latest bulletin issued by the National Council for Reclamation of Waste Material. . . Pointing out that the Minister of Supply has named as collecting agencies foirubber the waste reclamation boards and committees throughout the Dominion, and garages, service stations and dairy companies, the bulletin states that a meeting convened by the Department of Supply was held on August 26, which meeting decided ito set up an advisory board to co-ordinate the collecting inspecting and disposing of waste rubber. The board comprises Mr. J. B. Lyinburu, Controller of Salvage, who is chairman, Messrs. J. W. Collins and E. A. Batt, otthe national waste council, Mr. C. R. Edmond, secretary of the New-Zealand Retail Motor Trades Association, and Mr. A. Richards, representing tyre importers. After discussing the prime necessity of storage, the meeting resolved that all motor lyres and tubes be stored in garage premises or at service stations where covered or uncovered protected space is available, that waste reclamation boards and committees collect, accept and sort all classes of small rubber goods, and that the Department of Supply, be requested to obtain yards at shipping centres where bulk supplies could be stored ready for quick disposal by export or to New Zealand industries.
Except for Canterbury, no settled policy as to the disposal of waste rubber has been decided on by the Department of Supply, states the bulletin. .After the main collections halve been made nationally and the total tonnage assessed th* Department df Supply proposes to export the balance of rubber available after the requirements of New Zealand inv dustries have been met
