FIRE-WATCHING
New Exemption Procedure
The Wellington fire protection organizer stated yesterday that the exemption chits issued to certain E.P.S, members and other persons were being recalled and those who still remaineel entitled to exemption were being issued with a new chit from fire-watching headquarters. Controllers and other officers were being requested through qflicial channels to forward to the chief executive officer a list of persons for whom they considered exemption still remained necessary. The chief executive officer and the fire protection organizer collaborate in settling the list of exempted persons, after which the new chit would be on issue to persons entitled to it, and the previously issued chit would be declared void. On receipt of the View chit an exemptee* would be required to produce this to his building organizer, and the new chit would become valid 48 hours after its presentation. The building organizers would not be responsible to secure presentation of the chit; the responsibility for its production would rest with the exemptee. Controllers and senior officers were advised, therefore, to await a request from the chief executive officer for a. list of persons whom they considered it was imperative should be exempted. The lire protection organizer commented that in the. early stages of firewatching development it was inevitable that inconsistencies in the issuing of chits should take place, and the new procedure was being adopted so that as many persons as possible could be utilized in the fire-watching service, at the same time protecting other sections of the E.P.S. from a depletion of persons vital to their operation.
