Chronometers And Sextants Required
A notice published in the Gazette Issued last evening calls for information from all persons who have in their possession or control a chionoineier or wxtuut capable of being' used for purposes of navigation. Every ]>erson concerned must, on or before September 18, write to the secretary, Shipbuilding Committee, c/o. Marine Department,, ■Wellington, giving ..liis imine and address and the particulars of the elirciiO'ineter or sextant. If the insirutnents are at present being used for purposes of navigation, mlviee-to that effect '-s •o he given. The Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr. Sullivan, said that the registration of these inslrumenl.s was mosi important, being directly connected with certain naval developments in regard to the equipping of small vessels for defence purposes. These vessels in their local trade had not curried these insl rmnents, which were most difficult to obtain from overseas. ’ "Owners of I he instruments selected for immediate use by the Government, v.’ill have the option of giving or loaning or selling them to the Government,” said the .Minister. “In the case of persons loaning their instruments to the Government for this essential war work, every effort will he made to ensure the return of the instruments to the owners in good condition, subject, of course, to fair wear and tear and the exigencies of war.”
