The charges against them concerned the conversion of a car and the theft, from a Home Guard headquarters, of military weapons. ; . They had been arrested in the wairarapa when the car was recognized by the police as one reported missing, and the arms, two tommy-guns, a .303 rifle and a .22 pea rifle, were found in the car. . „ • At the request of Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan, who appeared for the police, the youths were remanded for one week, the magistrate ordering that they should 'be kept apart from others in detention.
