BRITISH DENIAL
Tying Hands Of German
Prisoners
(British Official Wireless.) . RUGBY, September 3. The War Oflice issued the following statement today:—
“A German communique has stated that orders were given by the British in the Dieppe operations that prisoners' hands should be tied to prevent them destroying tiieir papers. Investigations are being made as to whether, in fact, any such order was issued, it is categorically denied that any German prisoner had his hands tied and if any such order was issued it will be cancelled.”
This War Office communique followed a German announcement that the hands of British prisoners taken at Dieppe would be chained, in retribution for the alleged tying of the hands of German prisoners by the British.
