CASES OF CEREBRO-SPINAL MENINGITIS
Cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis are still occurring* in. New Zealand, tnou 0 n there was a slight decrease in the number for the week ended August 24. There were 33 cases in the Dominion with four deaths, including five cases in We ling on with one death and eight cas96.nl Auckland with no deaths. The previous wee there vVere 50 cases in thg Dominion with eight deaths, ~s eve« c 1 a I se ®. Wellington with two deaths and 11 cases in Auckland with three, deaths. Cases quoted in all instances include suspects not definitely confirmed.
Taranaki Cases. Three children suffering (rem cerebrospinal meningitis died in the New liymouth hospital district same period. Though he admitted that there had been a noticeable increase in these cases in Taranaki compared with last year and earlier months this year, the district health officer, Dr. J. H. Blakelock, said that there was no need tor undue alarm. All cases had occurred sporadically and the authorities had been unable to trace a connexion between any two of them. ■
