For tailing to comply with the terms of a probation order, Mary Benson Cannon, domestic, aged 29, was sentenced by Mr. Justice Smith to nine months’ imprisonment' with hard labour in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. His Honour said that prisoner had been found guilty at Auckland in October, 1940, on a charge of selling furniture which she had obtained on hire purchase, and had been admitted to probation. She had been ordered to make restitution of £2O of the £7O she had obtained by the snip of the furniture, and she still owed £5/8/6. Since being admitted to probation she had committed seven separate offences against the law. Her real trouble was due to drink, “It looks ns if yon had made no effort to reform your conduct, and the time Ims come to impose a sentence of imprisonment on you." con eluded liis Honour.
