Bank Of A/asia Dividend The directors of the Bank of Australasia have declared an interim dividend of 2/0 a share less British income tax at u/C in the &. at the rate of 5 per cent, per annum, pavable on October 2 in the New Zealand currency equivalent at the date of declaration. Transfer books will close on September 7. Woolworths (Victoria) Ltd. Woolworths (Victoria) Limited advise that a dividend for the half-year ended September 30 has been declared on the 7 per cent, preference shares and will be pavable on October 15. Transfer books will be closed from (September IS to September 30, inclusive. Woolworths Ltd. Dividend Woolworths Limited advise that an interim dividend of 5 per cent, has been declared on the paid-up ordinary shares, and will be payable on October 10. Transfer books will be closed from September IS to .September 30, inclusive. Gold • Mining The Bed Jacks dredge, for the week ended August 22, returned 177 ounces for 74,600 yards. The Blackball Creek return was. 57 ounces for I'lB hours. The Gillespie’s Beach dredge returned 41m. 17dwt. for 130 hours from 15.710 yards.

Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Co. The accounts of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company, Limited, for the year ended June 30 show a net profit of £15,a01, compared with £21.171 in the previous year and £28.910 in 1940. The balance brought forward was £4501, giving a total of £20,005. From this the directors recommend a dividend of 5J per cent., compared with 6 per cent, in previous years. This will absorb £15,142. leaving £4866 to be carried forward. The report states that the smaller profit, rising costs and uncertain conditions have made a reduction in dividend advisable. . Metropolitan Gas Co. The Metropolitan Gas Co., Melbourne, earned a net profit of £195,686 for the year ended' June 34) last (£209,457 for 1940-4(1, and £190.4."6 for 1939-40). Dividend 18/-, unchanged. Transfer of £lO,OOO to reserve fund, £82,382 carried forward, £81,946 having been brought in. Revenue from gas sales was £1,609,577 (£1,462,069 for 1940-41), aud from residuals £345,528 (£248,705). Manufacture costs were £1.040,.107 (£863,723), gas distribution charges £228,848 (£222,354); management, £118,113 (£114,591). Glen Afton Collieries Reporting on the year's operations of Glen Afton Collieries, the chairman, .Mr. A. Hayward, staled that the output hud again improved, 226.315 tons of coal having been produced, ns against 214,804 tons 'last year, an increase of 11,511 lons. Of the total output, the New Zealand Dairy Company’s factories consumed 61,570 tons, while suppliers received 12,620 Inns, and the railways and the public received the balance. From a distribution point of view the year had been a very dlllieult one, said Mr. Hayward, in that the demand thud been greater than the supply, and the domestic market had hail to suffer. A great increase hud occurred in the requirements of the railways, and for some months kitchen coal was jiff the domestic market.
