POTATO SALES
Fixed Prices Exceeded GREENGROCERS FINED Five greengrocers appeared, before Mr. Moulding, S.M., in the Magistrates Court, Wellington, yesterday on charges of selling potatoes at a greater pi-ice than that permitted under the Price Control Regulations. They were Poy Chew Young, Moxham Avenue, Hataitai; Pond Young," Lambton Quay. Wellington ; Raymond Lowe, Moxham Avenue, Hataitai; and Tse Lal Hong (trading as Sam Keel, Upland Road, Kelburn, ouch of whom was fined I’7/10/- and costs, and George Mong Pang. Riddiford Street, Newtown, who was fined £4 and costs. Mr. W. R. Birks, who prosecuted on behalf of the Price Tribunal, said that George Wong Pang sold w>tatoes to the tribunal’s inspectors at two and a half pounds for 6d., and the others sold them at 3d. a pound. The sales were made at the end of June and the beginning of July, when the retail price fixed under the regulations was 2d. a pound. The potatoes had been bought by defendants at 13/6. and 14/- a hundredweight, and were of South Island origin. Mr. N. Mitchell appeared for all defendants and pleaded guilty.
