U-BOATS STRIKE AGAIN IN CARIBBEAN
Enemy Change Tactics (Received August 28, 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 27.
Three ships have been torpedoed and sunk, two of them within the space of four minutes and one at night in the Caribbean in the first large-scale assault since June, when convoying was introduced. They included a mediumsized United States merchant vessel. It is believed that two submarines attacked two vessels which were travelling close together. A radi6 operator explained that the submarines have changed their tactics and now lie in wait for passing vessels, spring up to mjike a quick attack, and then retire. The Maritime Commission announced that six Liberty ships will be launched on Labour Day, one of which will be named the Samuel Gompers, honouring the founder of the American Federation of Labour. The other five will he named in honour of other Labour leaders. At Cleveland the Federal Court has granted an injunction restraining the Kaieer Company, which has a provisional agreement with the Government to build giant Mars transport planes, from dealings in the blackmarket of the steel industry. The Office of Price Administration alleged that Mr. Henry J. Kaiser bought more than 500,0001 b, of steel at 5210 dollars above the ceiling prices, also paying double the railway freight rate for split carload lots.
