German Manufacturing Town Suffers U.S. BOMBERS OVER ROTTERDAM LONDON, August 28. The Royal Air Force last night made a big attack on the German manufacturing town of Kassel, 80 miles east of the Ruhr. Thirty of our bombers are missing. Kassel was heavily bombed last September and last night’s raid is the ninth the city has experienced. RUGBY, August 27.
An Air Ministry and Army communique states: “United States Flying Fortresses, escorted by Spitfires of the R.A.F. Fighter Command, bombed the shipyards at Rotterdam late this afternoon. Hits were seen in the centre of the target, and on two ships in the dock area. None of our aircraft is missing.” The Air Ministry states: “Soon after midday a squadron of Bostons, escorted by a strong force of fighters, bombed the German airfield at Abbeville. Bursts were seen on the runways and in the dispersal areas. “One Boston was hit by anti-aircraft fire and lost. One member of its crew was killed. The other two, who were wounded, were rescued -from the sea. Fighters had combats with enemy fighters. Three enemy machines were destroyed, and nine of our fighters are missing.”

One smaller ship was also hit. Despite heavy flak from the shore, all the planes’returned safely. RUSSIAN BOMBING Raids On Many German Towns LONDON, August 27. Moscow radio announced that the Russian Air Force overcame difficult weather when it bombed military and industrial objectives in Berlin, Danzig, Konlgsberg, Stettin, Tilsit and other towns in eastern, north-eastern and central Germany on the night of August 20. *Nine large fires ■were started in Berlin and in Danzig. Fires and explosions were observed in other target areas.
