SEED POTATO SCHEME

A scheme to help meet the seed potato shortage nut before the Whangnrei Primary Production Council by the organizer, Mr. 11. tv. James, has been outlined to the Minister of Primary Production for War Purposes, Mr. Polson. He has asked for full details so that he could put them before Hie departments concerned. It is suggested that Army camps, hospitals, hotels, restaurants and any other large users of potatoes should be risked to cut off the rose ends of the potatoes they are using, these to be collected at a central depot, where they will lie sold to the public. A percentage o£ the proceeds will be deducted for handling charges and the balance go to camp funds or to the other suppliers, or, if they are agreeable, to the patriotic funds. So that the soldier will not have to suffer, it is suggested that the Army ration be increased by at least the weight of rose ends sent in. It is realized that sets will require to be planted as quickly us possible so that daily collections will most likely be necessary.

Attention is drawn to an advertisement in this issue making a_ vital correcton to a rationing notice published on Thursday.
