Uruguay Joins Brazil
(Received August 27. 8.30 p.tn.) RIO DE JANEIRO, August 27
More than 1060 Germans and Italians have been arrested in the past four days in Rio do Janeiro and the nearby Brazilian States, and an additional 1000 have been taken into custody in tlie outlying States.
Venezuela aud Colombia have granted imn-beiligerent status to Brazil. All nine South American countries have now granted non-belligerency recognition to Brazil. The Uruguayan Government lias announced to Brazil that Uruguay will co-operate in the common defence ugainst possible aggression. Tbe Uruguayan National Defence Ministry has been authorized to adopt, in agreement with the Brazilian military authorities, all measures designed to improve tlie efficiency of the common defence, amt Uruguay has declared her complete solidarity with Brazil.
