Late News RAPID ADVANCE BY GERMANS
Wedge North-west Of Stalingrad ATTACK NOW HELD
LONDON, August 26. Moscow reveals that a rapid advance toward Stalingrad from the north-west has been made by tanks and mechanized infantry who broke through from the Don. A communique says that intense fighting is taking place in this area. Soviet troops have thrown back fierce enemy attacks and inflicted heavy casualties. The Germans are now less than 40 miles north-west of the city in addition to the thrusts from the west and south-west.'
