Government House. Wellington, August 26.

Dis Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral presided at a meeting of the Exe-, cutive Council this morning. Sir Harry Luke has left Government House.

Mr. E. 1.. Rutledge returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Mr. C. F. Wrigley, lecturer in psychology at Otago University, returned south yesterday.

Dr. J. S. Church has been gazetted an assistant inspector of hospitals for Taranaki.

Mr. G. E. Breeze, chief .surveyor of ships, and chairman of the .Shipbuilding Committee, is visiting Auckland.

Professor T. D. J. Leech, dean of the faculty of engineering at Auckland University College, arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Lieut.-Colonel E. Marsden, C.8.E., M.C., scientific adviser lo the fighting forces, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Mr. J. IL Reed lias been re-elected chairman of the Southland Technical College Board of Managers for the twenty-second year in succession. Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, Auckland provincial vice-president, and Mr. A. E. Robinson, provincial secretary, of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, arrived at Wellington yesterday. Mr. R. M. Hackett, on ttie iwentylifih anniversary of his appointment, and after a total service of nearly 45 rears. retired yesterday from iln- editorship of the "New'Zealand Herald.” He is siteeeeded by .Mr. L.
