Winner of the "Lucky Charm" art union is Mr. Charles McCaskill, 37 Crai.ghall Crescent, Wakari, Dunedin. Mr. McCaskill is an elderly man, :i carpenter and joiner and well-known bowler. Today he was suffering from inliuenz.a, but Mrs’. McCaskill said the windfall came as a great .surprise, more specially ns they rarely bought a ticket in the art union. Mr. McCaskill is a member of a home defence unit.

Robert Phelan, taxi-driver and seaman, was lined £5 and costs in the Magistrates' Court, Wellington, yesterday, on conviction on a charge of failing to notify bis change of address to lhe Director of National Service. In admitting the offence on behalf of his client, Mr. (>. Joseph explained that Phelan had been serving on various overseas ships and had only been paid off a few days ago. It was not a case of attempting to avoid military service, Mr. Joseph said.
