An essay-writing competition has been sponsored by the New_ Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association, in an endeavour to stimulate an interest in nursing among ' te Entran S ts rl muBt make the present appeal for recruits and the consequent career ooeu to girls who take up the calling, their ole entry subject. This will require a certain amount of research and the studying of recruitment displays and shores located at the Central Library and D.I.C. There are two. age groups, with separate awardment prizes; a 12 to 14 years section and a lo to 17 years one. Euergetic War Work Circle. . At the monthly meeting ot the Karori branch of the Dominion Federation ot Townswomen’s Guilds, the war work circle reported a substantial increase in membership, and that the first packs of field dressings for the Home Guard and FP S. had been issued. This circle also made a grant of £5 to the Karori Soldiers’ Welfare Association, lhe sum of f 1 /16/- was collected from members nresent toward a further £5, and the war work sales table collected 16/0. Entertainment was provided by Mrs. Harris and Mies Dorothy Seymour. Concert for Airmen. Recently the airmen at a station near Wellington were entertained by Miss Esme Crow and her concert party. The popular Turuer-Cottier Orchestra played the latest song hits, and other items included tap dancing, magic, piano-aecor-dion vocal, comedy and instrumental items. At the conclusion of the programme a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Crow and her party, after which supper was served. Miramar Hospitality Club. The Miramar Fighting Services Hospitality Club is proving popular with men of the forces on Sundays, games and dancing being in great demand. Thanks are extended to the Miramar Catholic Women’s Guild for their assistance in providing afternoon tea, tea, and supper recently, and also to Messrs. M. Jones, D. Richardson, and F. Munro, who supplied music for daneiug. Items were given by Howard Porter and Harry Armstrong, two visiting members of the Allied forces. Vocal solos by Mr. Haley and Private Ronald Bell, and dancing by Aiieeu Borham and Sandy Wilson, also proved popular. Community singing was led by Mr. Haley, and S/Sgt. George Spooner was master of ceremonies.
