GOLD THEFT ALLEGED
Alluvial Winnings Worth £31,496
A charge of stealing 36500 z. of alluvial gold, valued at £31,496, the property of Arahura Gold Dredging, Ltd., was preferred against Leo Edward Morland, metallurgist, aged 41, in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. On the application of the police he was remanded till next Tuesday. Accused did not apply for bail and was not represented by counsel. The offence is alleged to have been committed at Arahura, near Hokitika, in October, 1940, while accused was employed by Arahura Gold Dredging, Ltd.
