CASES OF CEREBRO SPINAL MENINGITIS

Cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis are still occurring in New Zealand at a fairly high rate. For the week ended August 17 there were 50 cases in the Dominion, with eight deaths, including seven cases in Wellington with two deaths, and 11 cases in Auckland with three deaths. The previous week there were 59 cases in the Dominion with two deaths, including 18 eases in Wellington with one death. Cases quoted in all instances include suspects, not definitely confirmed. The medical ollieer of health, Wellington, Dr. Hubert Smith, said yesterday that in several cases death had occurred after only a short illness.
