WALL NEWSPAPERS FOR SOLDIERS

(By Telegraph.— Press asbii —Copyright.l (Special Correspondent.) LONDON, August 5. Newspapers stuck on u wall and written by soldiers for soldiers about soldiers are becoming increasingly popular in the British Army. The newspapers are usually published weekly, and are produced by editorial staffs who volunteer from the ranks. All the articles are typewritten, and then, with original cartoons and pictures, they are pasted on a stout sheet which is stuck on a wall. There are at least 30 such newspapers in various camps in Britain. The editor of one says; ‘‘Wall newspapers are stimulating, and often reveal talent in unexpected quarters. We report real camp news, and interview new arrivals and visiting senior officers.” All the articles are anonymous, also “grouses,” which can reach the commanding officer without anyone breaking disciplinary rules. The cost of production is estimated at 1/ft a week. It is understood that these wall newspapers, which were first popularized in the Russian Army, have the unofficial enthusiastic support of Army and education authorities.
