AUCKLAND, August 5. At the Westfield sale there was an improved demand for the good entry ol prime ox and quotations were better by 1/- per lODlb. Extra choice ox made to 40/- per '1001b.; choice and prime, 37/- to 30/-; secondary and plain, 33/- to Jo/-, extra prime young cow and heifer, 30/- to 34/-; choice and pvime, 2C/- to -8/-, ordinary cow beef, 22/- to 24/-, , extr ® 'heavy prime steers, £lO to £l6/</6; heavy, £l4/10/- to £l5/10/-; lighter £l3 to ■£l4; light, £ll/10/- to £l2/10/-: small and ' unfinished, £0 to £lO/lu/-; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, —lO to £l2/10/-; heavy, £8 to £9; lighter, £0 10/- to £7/10/-; other, £5 to £6. A small entry of sheep was penned. Competition was keen and there was a decided rise in prices. A full entry of lambs sold freely at full late rates. ’Extra heavy prime lambs, £1 9/- to £l/11/6: heavy, £l/6/- to £l/8/-; medium, £l/3/6 to £l/5/-: lighter, £1 to £l/2/-; light, 18/- to 19/-; small and plain, 15/- to 17/-. There was an extra heavy yarding of calves, the majority being station-bred runners and vealers. Considering the yarding, the demand was steady, but values for all classes were lower. Runners, £4/10/- to £B/15/-; heavy vealers, £6 to £7/4/-; medium, £5 to £5/10/-; light, £4 to £4/15/-; small, £1 to £3 15/-: unfinished and bucket-fed, £1 to £l/15/-: bobby and rough, 5/- to 18/-.' A medium - entry of baconers realized lower prices compared with last week. Porkers sold at recent quotations, "while values for stores showed a sharp rise. Choppers, £l/15/- to £3: heavy baconers, £4/12/- to £4/17/-; medium, £4/5/- to £4/9/-: light, £4 to £4/4/-; heavy porkers, £3/16/- to £4/3/-; medium, £3/7/- to £3/12/-: light, £2/18/- to £3/4/-; small and unfinished. £2/8/- to £2/45/-; stores, £2/9/. to £2/19/-: slips, £l/15/- to £2 8/-; weaners, £l/6/- to £2/4/-. ADDINGTON (By Telegraph—Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. The cattle entered at the annual National fat stock show yesterday were sold today at Addington. The best made from £2B to £35, others from £23 to ,£27. Fat sheep eased sharply and store sheep were also cheaper. Porkers were easier aud baconers dearer. The store sheep entry totalled just over 3000. Most of thq ewes showed good quality. The market generally was not , as sound as last week and prices showed an all-round drop of 1/- a head. The best price for ewes was 3-1/6. Best aged sheep, a shipped line, fetched 27/3, a line of 139 six and eight-tooth ewes, 26/-: medium to good, from 18/3 to 22/-; poorer quality, 16/- to 17/4; inferior, 10/11 to 13/11. Wethers were not In as good demand as at late sales, top price being 28/-. Most wethers ranged from 21/9 to 24/6. The fat sheep entry was again heavy, numbering approximately 5000. These included some outstanding pens of wethers of show quality, which realized from 50/- to 54/4. The sale otherwise showed a decided decline of up to 3/6 a head for both wethers and ewes. Best ewes made 1 up to 31/-. There was a small entry of spring lambs, mostly well grown. Good, lambs ranged from 34/to 37/-, with a few special’singles up to 39/10. Small lighter weights ranged from 22/6 to 29/-. Fat cattle numbered 521, against 650 last week. The show .cattle sold exceptionally well, top price being £35. resold at' £3O on behalf of the patriotic society. A winning pen of three steers made £3l, and other prices ranged from £24 to £29. Ordinary pennings sold at little change on a week ago. Commercial cattle ranged from 41/- to 43/6 per 1001 b. for best, and from 36/- for ordinary to 40/- for good, with secondary cows down to 32/-. Porkers were down on last week by an average of 5/- to 6/-. Prices ranged from 43/6 to 72/6. Baconers were dearer by 2/- to 3/-. prices being from £3/19/6 to £5/12/6. Porker values per lb. were Bd. to 9d„ baconers, 74d. to B}d. WANGANUI Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, August 5. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report that a better yarding of fat sheep than for some considerable time realized a keen sale at a substantial advance on last week. A good entry of store sheep met a bright sale with a total clearance under the hammer. Fat cattle were firm on last week, but in the store cattle market, which comprised mostly yearlings, cattle were not wanted. The dairy Sale was a slow one, with vendors meeting the market at low figures. Pigs and vealers had a keen sale with another advance. .Sheep: Prime wethers, 33/- to 35/6; fat, 28/- to 32/-: prime ewes. 24/9 to 27/1; fat, 28/- to 32/-; prime b.f. twotooths, lightweights, to 27/1: prime boggets. 25/- to 27/7; light, 17/6 lo 22/-; aged ewes, to S.D. rams, 16/1 to 20/3; two and four-tooth wethers, 23/6 to 25/6; b.C. hoggets, to 17/7; wether hoggets, 17/6; ewes and lambs, 10/-, all counted. Cattle: Fat P.A. cows, £7/5/- to £8: S.H. cows, £6/2/6 to £7; Jersey cows, £4 to £5/10/-; fat bullocks, to £ll/15/-: store cows, £l/5/- to £3/15/-; guaranteed dairy cows, close up, £7/5/- to £9; backward, £4/5/-, £6: good forward heifers, to £B/10/-; average, £6 to £6/10/-; backward, £4/10/- to £5/5/-. Pigs: Light baconers, £3 to £3/15/-; porkers, £2 to £2/10/-; light, £l/10/to 35/-; stores, 22/6 to 35/; good weaners, to 30/-; small, 15/- to 23/-. Vealers: Good heavy runners, £4/4/to £6/9/-; good vealers, £2/8/- to £3/10/,. MASTERTON MASTERTON, August 5. A good yarding was forward at the weekly sale at Masterton today, and all classes sold well to a keenly competing bench of buyers. Fat sheep appreciated in value from 2/- to 3/- a head, and inlamb ewes were in keen demand. .A special entry of dairy cattle attracted keen competition, several lots selling at prices well above those attained in neighbouring districts during the season. A line of good Jersey cows offered on account of the Estate of F. Perry, made from £9 to £ll/5/-, the whole line averaging £lO 1/6. An attractive entry offered on account Mrs. E. E. Wilson, made up to £l2/10/-. the line averaging £lO. Another line of high-producing cows offered on account of D. N. Perry, made £ll/15/-, and the line averaged £9/5/-. Other good dairy sorts made £B/10/-, £9, to £lO/5/-. A total clearance of the entire offering was made under the hammer. Realizations are.—-Sheep: Fat wethers. 34/7, 35/9; lighter sorts, 29/- to 30/9. Heavy ewes, 22/-, 23/6; light, 19/- to 20/- Fat hoggets. 29/8 to 30/-. Fat Southdown ewes, 22/9; 4yr. owes running with S.D. rams, 27/- to 27/10: four-tooth ewes running with S.D. rams, 27/-; mixed aged ewes, running with S.D. rams, 20/- to 21/9; medium shorn wether hoggets, 17/- to 18/6. An extra good line of woolly wether hoggets made 23/3, while woolly ewe hoggets made up to 26/-. PAHLATUA PAITIATUA, August 5. The Associated Auctioneers report that at the Pahiatua sale a large entry of both sheep and dairy cows and heifers, were yarded, and offered to a good attendance of local and outside buyers. Realizations in the sheep were on a par with late sales, and a total clearance was made at suction, wether hoggets meeting with keen competition. In the dairy section the yarding was gratly in excess of the advertised number, but with n large bench of buyers operating practically a total clearance was made, good values according to quality. The entry of pigs offered met with very keen competition, which no doubt was due to tin; change buck to butter, and realizations here were again high.
