GUARDIAN OF THE CRIPPLE

Role Of New Zealand Society The Crippled Children Society was the guardian of the cripple, whose battles it fought, said Mr. Malcolm Fraser, president of the Wellington branch, at the annual meeting last night. The cripple must have someone to tight for him in all circumstances, during and after treatment, and to see also that the necessary obligations were fulfilled toward him. The greatest service the society rendered the crippled child was through its welfare work. Mr. L. T. Watkins was elected president, Mr. Fraser being elected a vicepresident. Mrs. G. Kaukiu, secretary-vocational ollicer, was welcomed in . place of Mrs. V. A. May, who had resigned the post. Mr. Fraser said Mrs. Baukin was a worthy successor to Mrs. May and it was agreed to place on record appreciation ot the latter’s fine work. Thanks ami appreciation were expressed to Dr. A. Gillies, lirst for pioneering the movement and secondly for his close attachment to the Wellington branch and for the great amount, of work he continued to perforin gratis. The chairman of the three committees within tile branch were also lhanked for their efforts. They were Air. E. W. Hunt, of the executive, Airs I'. C. .Spratt, welfare committee, and. Mrs. E W. Hunt, women's service auxiliary.

W.D.F.U. Alerting. , , Forty mcjiibers attended the July lueeting ot‘tbe Lower Hutt branch of the W.D.F.D. Mrs. A. C. Stevenson, who presided, welcomed the visitors, jjnd a new member, Mrs. T. Macky. Twelve parcels were packed, and have been dis* patched for sons of members serving overseas. Alettns of furthering the patriotic efforts of the union were discussed, and tentative plans made. . it was decided to assist with the Services Club activities at the Hutt. The lormation of a spinning circle in connexion with the union wits discussed.. Members have been very energetic in knitting comforts for men of lite Merchant: Navy, in addition to other patriotic efforts, niemr tiers assist at the A.N.A. Club,. and with work for the Lady Galway Guild.
