QUESTIONS INVITED

Broadcasts From America The World Wide Broadcasting Foundation of New York, which transmits regular international programmes from WRUL, Boston, one of America’s bestknown shortwave stations, is seeking questions about the United States from radio listeners in New Zealand. In a letter received by Mr. A. Leigh Hunt, chairman of the British-American Co-operation Movement in Wellington, through Dr. Harry N. Holmes, a former Wellingtonian now living in New York, Sir Angus Fletcher, the foundation’s consultant for British Empire programmes, says that the purpose of the foundation, which is a non-profit one, is to foster international goodwill by direct radio broadcasts. Programmes directed to Great Britain, and the Empire were well under way, and the foundation would like listeners in New Zealand to forward their comments. One of the next developments being contemplated was a series of broadcasts about America, roughly speaking similar to the series entitled “Answering You” from the 8.8. C. shortwave transmitters. The foundation invited questions about the United States to be answered over the radio. The questions need not be serious; there was no restriction on the content of reasonable questions, though obviously not all would be suitable for a broadcast answer in time of war.
