Because of military needs, Australia will find it impossible to supply sufficient sole leather to effect repairs for all civilian footwear. Civilians have been urged to take the utmost care of their footwear and to accept cheerfully substitute soling material for both new footwear and shoe repairs. . Large quantities of tootwear which, are required by the Australian and American forces will absorb about 75 per cent, of the better-quality sole leather produced in Australia, states the Commonwealth directing authority of leather supplies, Mr. W. E. Hooper. Regular shipments of hides were received from New Zealand, and limited quantities from South America but it was impossible io import hides
