PROFITS LIMIT PLAN
Australia To Drop It CANBERRA, August 2. The Treasury will drop the proposal to limit profits to 4 per cent., said an official spokesman today. The full Cabined: will be asked to approve the decision on Monday, and it is inevitable that it will be accepted by the Government. It was now certain that the scheme was administratively impossible. “We are quite convinced,” said the spokesman, “that there is no way in which we can establish a profit limit that will give just treatment to all parties involved. Even if the Government: were to go to the country on the scheme and receive a mandate for it. it would still be impossible to devise legislation that could be regarded as ei pt it,'tide." The spokesman hinted that the Government would investigate other ways and means of dealing with wartime profits.
