OBITUARY
Mr. Arthur Greenaway The death is reported from Sydney of Mr. Arthur Greenaway, a graceful actor of 40 years ago, who toured New Zealand on many occasions, once with the Broughs, and again with 'Walter Bentley. His death severs another link with the legitimate stage when it was most vital; when company succeeded company in the New Zealand theatres, and there were always new plays and fresh companies in the offing, and comedy ranged cheek by jowl with drama, tragedy and comic opera in an endless and delightful procession. Mr. Greenaway was a particularly fine Shakespearean, and in Ins time played all the "juvenile” roles with a grace and refinement altogether pleasing. His mettle was not heavy enough for the great leads in the Master’s tragedies, but he was a slim and elegant Borneo, Laertes, Orlando, and Bassanio. Mr. Greenaway, once “stranded” in Wellington, was given a benefit in Thomaes Hall, Customhouse Quay (then one of the best known dance halls in Wellington), when he played the balcony scene from “Romeo and Juliet.” He was associated for some time with the late Miss Nellie Stewart, and bis Charles 11 in "Sweet Nell of Old Drury” was perhaps one of his best remembered characters. Mrs. S. Menzies The death occurred recently at her home, Main Road, Silverstream, where she had lived all her life, of Mrs. S. Menzies, at the age of 75. She was one of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. Perry, who were among the oldest pioneers of the Hutt Valley. Her husband died some years ago.
