Toys From New Zealand For British Children A - fine collection of 'toys from' the Wellington branch of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild has been allocated to the 13 nursery schools in Glamorgan. “Toys are specially appreciated by the children these days, as there tire no dolls at all left in the shops, and almost all the cuddly toys have likewise disappeared,” states a.special letter of thanks received from the Women's Voluntary Services for Civil Defence, Cardiff, England. The writer says that the lovely deJis and other treasures would give great joy to many children in these day nurseries, and the Wellington branch is warmly thanked for its kindness in sending sueh welcome gifts. A meeting of the branch’s executive committee was held in Wellington yesterday, when it was felt that children who were well supplied with toys might like to give them so that they could he forwarded to other children in the war zones in Britain.

. Since last meeting, nine, cases of clothing have been forwarded by direct shipment to Russia. The guild has •been able to supply some clothing to children evacuated here from Singapore. Work continues on the making of blitz bandages. 250 being made to date. Further gifts of old clean linen or towelling would be welcome in connexion wilh this work. Letters of thanks for clothing have been received from tho Ixmdon, Scottish headquartei’s, Edinburgh, Sandy Lane, Reddish, and Yarmouth.

The guild rooms will be moved to the second floor, Electricity House, at the beginning of next week.

E.S.U. Social Gathering. Women members of the English-Speak-ing Union in Wellington wore addressed by Mrs. A. M. Lewis at their monthly social yesterday afternoon. The speakei described tlie Dutch East Indies, with particular reference to Bali. Two members, Mrs. W. Rowe and her daughter, who are leaving to live in Auckland, were farewclled. Members of the Ngaio Sextet, Mesdanies Gorton ami Wilman, sang. The. bring and buy stull for the war work fund was well patronized.
