Training At Riccarton Dominion Special Service CHRISTCHURCH, July 30. Conditions were fine bu-t wintry for training operations at Riccarton today and a good deal of .work was executed on the trial grass, ' which; following overnight rain and with the effect of a prevailing strong wind, provided talrly slow going. i „ There were only two gallops on the plough. Several useful half-mile tasks without anything outstanding. Night Lancer beat Beau _Cfel in 51 3-5, and others, included Iceland Spar, 51 1-5; Wedding Ring, 52 3-5: Sally Lunn uud Ten Doll, 53 3-5 U Troja and Lady Midian, 52 1-5. , . , , Over five furlongs Lord Advocate recorded 1-7 .1-5: Nightglass and Warrigal, ■l,B 2-5 “Maggiore ami Good Scout,liH Six furlong tasks were credited to Sham Boy and Wardress in (L.jlB 2-5; Junior, 1.19; . Don’t Forget, 1.19; Red Dash, in front of Kara Avis. 1.19 1-5: Hlnepo, 1.19 1-a. Lowry Bay and Greek Dancer 1.20 3-o, Atreus. 1.20 2-5; Boloyna and Forte, 1.21 3-5; . Treasurer, I£2; Fleet Street, 1.21 2 -5: Stabilise. 1.22; Compeer and GnohiErambie, picked up by Retriever at the half mile, covered seven furlongs In 1 Heidelberg (F. Boyle) and Noko (Leach) gave a fast display over four hurdles, finishing together. The latter impressd by his smart work. Strip (Hensley) fol-< lowed this pair at an Interval and, though hitting the first fence hard, he. jumped the other three in dashing manner. Merry Simon (P. Bovle) and Adina (Stove) also jumped four hurdles at a fast ;P aee ; TO .„, Benevolent (Sagar) and Valantua (Waither) were companions over eight steeplechase fences, both shaping very satisfactorily. The former, specially, Is showing lin siayer m (A’ E. Ellis) and Anglo-French (j Boyle) were responsible for a spectacular task over eight fences. Both jumped faultlessly, but Slayer was always dolng the better work, and is undoubtedly in his best order. , ' Clansman (Walther) and Master Lackham (J. Burgess) also jumped eight fences well, but their display generally was not up to the standard of the previous pair. Song Boy (Leach) and Surcoat (P. Boyle) set off . for a similar task, but Song Boy refused at the first and Surcoat after clearing It was pair of them carried on, Surcoat a 1 ’ 8 ! 8 going better than his mate, , who .,S a J® Leach a difficult ride in keeping him to hl ßoseman, Tiirakl and Red .Owl were sent out together for a round of fi\e fences Roseman ran off at the ■ second of the double brush, the third fence on the journey, and Turaki followed him. This pair continued on. and the trio jumped the remaining two fences together. •_ G. Barr, rider of Night Dress, who fell and broke his neck while schooling on Tuesday, received ' a broken col aJbone and /will not be able to ride in the Ilomebv Steeplechase. Probably G. Ridgway will take the mount. Another rider w’ill also have to be secured tor Night Hawk In the Lawford Steeplechase.
