Opening For Goods Traffic On August 3 The new railway line between Wairoa and Gisborne is to be used from August 3 for tiie conveyance of goods. Construction has not yet reached the stage where the line can be taken over by the Railways Department from the Public Works Department. . , In order to obviate interference with the work of the Publie Works Department it will be necessary to confine the trains to night running and in consequence it will be possible to provide initially only « limited service. A goods train will leave Wairoa for Gisborne at 7.15 I'-iu- cnc l* Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and on the sai..e "evenings a goods train will leave Gisborne for Wairoa at 6.45 p.m. These trains will not have close connexions with the main line services, hut the Minister stated that the timetable is the best that can be arranged till the construction work is completed and daylight running between Wairoa and Gisborne becomes practicable. It is nnticipated that by i\ov|inber the line wiii be ready for passenger traffic and a timetable has been arranged, and will give adequate connexion with express services to and from Napier and Palmerston North
