FUTURE RUGBY
Auckland Team IMay Visit Wellington
In a letter received by the executive of .the Wellington Rugby Union last night, the Auckland union proposed that an Auckland team should play a Wellington team at Wellington on September 12. The letter stated that the Auckland union had decided not to pursue the annual home-aud-home matches between the two unions this year, as the Auckland commitments with the various service teams were fairly heavy. However, knowing of the Wellington union’s heavy commitments on Athletic Park, they would consider paying another visit to Wellington next year, in suggesting that a game be played in Wellington on September 12, the Auckland union asked that arrangements be made in Wellington for the team to travel. It was decided that decision be postponed till it was known whether there would be a trotting meeting on that day. Major T. G. Rutland, acting-secretary of the Seventh Brigade Bootball Committee, wrote stating that a Fourth Division Sports Committee had been formed, and lie understood that it was going to approach the Wellington union about.- arranging a Fourth Division v. First Division game in Wellington on August 29. The writer asked whether the Wellington union would be -willing to play a game Wellington Representatives v. Wairarapa Army Team, with 50 per cent, of the net proceeds to go to the patriotic funds, and 50 per cent, to the union. The making of arrangements for the match was left in the hands of the chairman, Mr. J. N. Millard. In the course of discussions the chairman said the New Zealand Tank Brigade team, which was defeated by Wellington last -Saturday, desired to play Wellington again.
