AUSTERITY CLOTHING
Preliminary Investigations Made Consultations have, it is understood, been proceeding l>etween the New Zealand Standards Institute and manufacturers’ groups concerning the standardization of clothing for economy purposes during wartime. Certain proposals are stated already to have been agreed on as the result of preliminary discussions with manufacturers, particularly in connexion with minimum material requirements for women’s outer wear. No contact has yet been made with manufacturers of men’s outer wear, or with retailing organizations, but it is probable that early attention may be given to economy of materials in such articles of clothing as sliirte ami men’s and women’s pyjamas. It is considered inevitable that New Zealand will have to face austerity clothing regulations similar to those which have just come into force in Australia, but. with due regard for climatic differences.
