HANDCRAFTS DISPLAY

Opened By Mrs. P. Fraser An arts and crafts display, arranged by members of the Salvation Army League, was opened by Mrs. I’. I’raser, wife of the Prime Minister, in Wellington yesterday. The display was arranged by Mrs. Brigadier Gray, divisional Home League secretary. Mrs. C. Stewart, M. 1., Mrs. Bagust, and Mrs. Basham, were present. From what she had seen ol the display, Mrs. Fraser said, she thought it would prove instructive, interesting and educational. The Home League was founded on the right principles, and if foundations were right, the work would be a success. An old Chinese proverb said, “Men build the roads, but women tench the children how to walk.” ’ln these days of stress, women bad to do both jobs*. She was sure women of the Salvation Army .were going to be excellent builders of roads and wonderful teachers of children. Mrs. Commissioner J. Evan Smith, in introducing Mrs. Fraser, said she had always given a splendid lead to the women of New Zealand, and had done her best to encourage them to take their rightful place in the community.

Homecraft demonstrations were given during the afternoon, and items were presented. Articles exhibited were samples of women's industry, ranging from buliy clothes to mats, papier mache vases, shoes from feltex, cushions, and ornaments.

The display, which was held in the Young People's Hall. Vivian Street, was open at night, and will continue this afternoon and evening. Whatever sum is raised will go toward Christmas parcels for the men overseas.

New Visitors Welcomed at Webby’s. Webby’s Club had a full weekend, and many new visitors were given a warm welcome by its members. Sundays are (■'ways informal, the girls jireptiring tasty lens which are fallowed by dancing to music supplied by guest artists. Dainty suppers are served, these being baked Lj helpers interested in the club.
