WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE AUXILIARY
During recent weeks members of the industrial group of the NVomen’s War Service Auxiliary have been devoting their time on Saturdays and Sundays to assisting the Y.M.C.A, in Wellington provide accommodation for soldiers on weekend leave. NVorking in relays the members make beds and prepare the dormitories; they act as cloakroom attendants, and on Sunday morning they serve rs many as 200 breakfasts. The sewing class of this group, which is training at the Technical College, made over 100 pillowcases at short notice for the Y.M.C.A.
Members of the transport group are now undergoing a test on the mechanism that was used at the Centennial Exhibition. This exacting test records their ability and reactions as drivers, and the results should prove valuable.
Already the land group has planted vegetables on ’allotments in Russell Terrace. Aiken Street and at Kbandallah. Work will soon begin on the Karori plot. The apjile packers have now finished their course of, training. As an expert can pack a 401 b. ease of apples in two minutes, members of this group are now trying to reduce their time for the operation, and should be ready for work when the apple season opens in February. Next week’s activities for members of the NV.NV.S.A. are advertised today.
