NAPIER, November 15.

That, too rigid inl.i-rprelaiion of the regulations controlling collections of patriotic moneys was nut in the best interests of patriotic endeavour was the opinion which was expressed by the executive to a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay I’rovincial I’atriolic Council. The chairman, Mr. T. W. Hercock, said it. had been decided that mayors' funsd would be allowed to stand to some extent, bur. nevertheless the council wished Io encourage donors to give through the patriotic funds. The following expenditure was reported on : —Farewell parcels, £504 ; overseas parcels, £031; bussifs. £106; wool ami knitting requirements for National! Fund Board, £505; comforts ami recreation. £798; administration. £275; cost of money-raising efforts, £7O. It. was decided that the Hastings zone area should include Hastings, Havelock North, Clive, Haumoana, Te Awanga, Ruaperc, Maraetotara. Waimarama, I’akipaki, Opapa. Te Hauke, Twyford, Fernhall, Maraekakaho, Whanawhana, Sherenden, Okawa, Omaha, Bridge Pa, Kereru, Maugatahi, Poukawa, and Longlands.

The council accorded full support to a telephone-radio appeal to be held on November 27. Mr. 2V. F. Redgrave, Hastings, gave details of the proposal.

It was reported by the treasurer, Mr. F. R. Watters, that the council’s funds now totalled £6750. made up of £lOOO deposited at eall with the Napier Borough Council, £2OOO with the I’ost Office Savings Bank, and £3750 with the Bank of New Zealand. He said that it was time for further investments to be made and recommended that £4OOO should be taken out in Treasury bills. Action was left to the executive. The council decided to consider sympathetically a request by Mrs. C. McBeath. Napier, for the establishment of a home for soldiers’ children.
