Considering the hard state of the going, excellent fields accepted for the fourth aud final day of the Carterbury Jockey Club’s metropolitan meeting at Riceartou today. The feature event is the Metropolitan Handicap, which will see several horses that have rested since the first day. There are also fresh runners in other events. Unless there is heavy rain, the going will again be bard and fast. The following horses may be supported in their engagements:— Suburban Handicap.—Old Surrey, Cymric, and Stabilize. Seymour Handicap. — Blue Coat. Gayest Son, and Craiglea. Cressy Handicap.—Ruatiti, Harina, and Second Innings. Pioneer Handicap.—Puy Roll, Bird of Prey, aud Palfrey. Metropolitan Handicap.—Capricious, . Sereuata, and The Raker. Hagley Handicap.—Airline, Sir Atuyas and King’s Toast. Stonyhurst Handicap.—Don’t Forget, Poutatau, and Doria. There were .some heavy showers this morning in Christchurch, but the weather cleared again till toward late afternoon, when some more heavy ruin fell, to the accompaniment of thunder. Conditions this evening were threatening, but indications are for another fine day tor tomorrow’s concluding day at Riccarton. The track was watered yesterday and again today, and, with the rain that has fallen, the going will be much improved and will be appreciated by horses that have failed on previous days to act on hard ground. • The only bracket tomorrow will be Nigger Boy and Sleeveless in the Members’ Handicap.
