TO PREVENT BROWNING
A Summer Lawn Dressing
Very soon lawns will begin to show the effects of hot weather and of wear and tear. To prevent the unsightly brown patches which follow dry spells, give the lawn now a dressing of one part sulphate of ammonia and four parts sand, at the rate of 2oz. a square yard. The sand, though used mainly as a spreader, helps to keep the lawn porous, and thereby less susceptible to the browning effect of the hot sun. Water thoroughly before applying the mixture, and also immediately afterward. This precaution must be taken to avoid the least hint of a temporary setback, which might follow if crude sulphate of ammonia were to lie undissolved on the turf.
