Building Up Defence KNOX’S SIX-POINT PROGRAMME
(By Telegraph—Press Assu.—Copyright.) BOSTON, November 14.
Calling for unparalleled unity in the building up of national defence, the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, in a speech, said that the United States would not appease anyone on earth.
He added that the present war between the principles of democracy and of totalitarianism must be fought out to a finish if world progress was to continue. Americans could not be scared into an attempt to preserve peace unworthily. "\Ve have the strongest fleet on the seven seas and thank God its ready, said Colonel Knox. Colonel Knox cited a six-point defence programme. “First, we will give Britain every possible degree of aid short of leaving the United States defenceless,” lie said.
“Secondly, we will have concern tor the Chinese and hope soon to be able to aid China similarly to Britain. “Thirdly, we must pile up armaments at whatever cost. It is better to be ready too soon and have too much than to be too late and not have enough. “Fourthly, we will not appease anybody on earth.
“Fifthly, we will not talk about what we are going to do, but will do it. “Sixthly, we are going to harden our muscle and will, because sellpreservation is possibly only by sacrifice.”
