EGYPTIAN PREMIER

Death While Reading Speech From Throne

LONDON, November 14.

The Egyptian Premier. Hassan Sabry Pasha, collapsed and died while reading the Speech from the Throne in the presence of King Farouk at the reopening of the Egyptian Parliament. He had been Prime Minister of Egypt since June of this year. • In a statement in the Egyptian Chamber last July, after Italy’s enirj into the war, Hassan Sabry Pasha declared that’Egypt was anxious to maintain her independence and fulfil obligations toward Great Britain. His statement was welcomed by the Egyptian Chamber, which gave Jinn a vote of confidence by a large majority. In the Speech from the Throne which lie was reading before lie died, and which was continued by the President of the Senate, King Farouk affirmed Egypt’s resolve to maintain her security and integrity. He said: "In this implacable war Egypt has adopted an attitude dominated by the desire to ensure her safety and fulfil hei obligations. She has executed the treaty of alliance and friendship with Britain with complete sincerity, both in the letter and in the spirit.” King Farouk acknowledged the help his country had received from Britain, especially in the purchase of the cotton crop. Cabinet Crisis Likely. (Received November 15, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 14. The Cairo correspondent of “‘The Times” says Hassan Sabry Pashas death leaves a gap in Egyptian political life which will be very difficult to till, and is also likely to prccipiate a complicated Cabinet crisis. It is most improbable that any members of hi* Cabinet, will take over the Premiership? Sabry Pasha was not a party man and therefore there is no logical successor.

Hassan Sabry Pasha became Pres niier of Egypt after the resignation of All Maher Pasha at the end of June. He was formerly Egyptian Minister in London. He was also Minister of Mar in rhe Mohammed Mahmoud Pasha Cabinet. In addition to becoming Prime Minister he took the portfolio of Foreign Affairs.
