Alexander Mines, Limited, has issued ■ the following gold returns for the month of October:—Battery department: 306 tons crushed for 1 14oz. 12 grains, melted gold. Cyanide department: 200 tons of sands treated for 250 z. ISdwts. of bullion. 'Total estimated value, £lO7O. In addition: 54 tons of concentrates have been saved containing 23.570 z. of gold, valued ar £l9l. In estimating the above, gold has been taken at 160/- per fine ounce. Big River Gold Mines. Limited, reports for the month of October that the winze stope in No. 5 level was continued and proved the block to be 12 feet long and averaging five feet in width. Prospecting in Nos. 1, 4 and 6 levels was carried on without result. No. 7 level reached the zone where signs of the reef were expected. Some detached pieces of stone carrying good visible gold were met with. The track is now being followed south, and prospects are promising for an early development. Forty tons of stone was sent to the battery.
