WAIPAWA ELECTION
Polling Day Tomorrow
VOTING BY MEN OVERSEAS
Polling in the Waipawa by-election will take place tomorrow' between 9 a.m. aud 7 p.m., and it is expected that the result will be known about 9 p.m. Two candidates are contesting the election—Mr. C. G. E. Harker (National) and Mr. 11. M. Christie (Labour). It is hoped also to have by tomorrow night the result of the voting by Waipawa electors serving overseas with (lie armed forces so that it can be announced simultaneously witli tlie local returns. Electors of Waipawa absent from the electorate but in New Zealand will be able to exercise their votes as absentees on making application lo any post office. As the election is being held on a Saturday and all post otiices oilier than those in the chief centres are not open in flic afternoon of that day. absentees in such places should see that they record their 'oles in the morning. Soldiers in camps in New Zealand will vote as ordinary absentee or postal voters, and their votes will be grouped with tlie other absentee ami postal votes in the usual manner. Tlie votes of soldiers serving overseas will be recorded separately. The close of voting in the New Zealand military camps abroad has been arranged to allow sufficient time for tlie counting of tlie votes and tlie cabling of tlie results by tomorrow night. There are -IS lulling booths in the electorate. At the last general election the candidates were Mr. Christie and the late Mr. A. E. .lull, who was returned witli 5070 votes to Mr. Christie's 1621.
