Situation Described As Contused

LONDON, November 12. It is authoritatively stated that the situation regarding Gallabat is confused, but it appears that our troops were compelled to leave the fort after an extremely heavy air bombardment. The Italians entered it a day later, but the British were reported to be cast of Gallabat on November 11. suggesting that thev had re-entered the fort.

A Cairo communique states that there is no change in Egypt, Kenya, or Palestine. In the Sudan yesterday, our troops, operating from Gallabat, inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy at little loss to themselves. Throughout the day our artillery successfully engaged targets in an enemy camp at Metemma, causing a number of fires, including petrol and ration stores. Operations were continued in the Kassala sector. An R.A.F. communique says that bombers carried out night raids on Benghazi and Tobruk, also Berka, where they destroyed two grounded bombers and severely damaged other planes and aircraft buildings. A. large lire was started at Tobruk. Other bombers attacked Maiadaga, Gurazula, Keren and Messawa, which are all in Italian East Africa, and Dorol Islands in the Red Sea. Violent explosions occurred at Maiadaga. Two fires were started in a military camp at Keren. The destroyer base at Messawa was attacked and a Rhodesian squadron bombed motor transport on the Metemma-Gondar Road. An Italian communique says: 'Pile enemy bombed Derna,-where two were killed and ten injured, and also Benghazi, where three were killed ami 10 injured. •‘Enemy attacks against Gallabat were repulsed.” ‘‘Our planes bombed various enemy positions in North Africa.”
