EFFICIENT BRITISH HELP

Spanish Writer’s Comment

(British Official Wireless.) (Received November 13, 7.5 p.m.) RUGBY, November 12.

Because of Spain’s naturally keen preoccupation with events in the Mediterranean theatre of war. an article by the military correspondent of the Spanish Falangist organ, “Arriba,” has been read witli particular interest in London.

Underlining the "most efficient help’ that Britain is rendering Greece, the writer points out that the British occupation of Crete, which is an excellent naval and aerial base, will considerably strengthen Britain’s naval and military position in the eastern Mediterranean. Southern Italy, he anticipated, will from now ori be subjected to the perils of aerial and naval attacks of great intensity and efficiency.

The slowness of Italy's campaign, lie says, is caused by the mountainous nature of the country, preventing use of motorized units, and lie adds: "The Jtaiian-Greek war Jias provided another lesson in showing that, as was tlie case in ancient times, terrain continues to be of great importance in Hie development of military operations.”
